This Sunday’s rideout took me to Lynhdurst in the New Forest so that I could take a look around, and wish success to the guys at, The Woods Cyclery.
The shop is more retail oriented to compliment their leading cycle hire facility in Burley. The Woods will be offering bikes for hire as well, giving even greater access to the New Forest.
The team have gone for a soft launch as keen to get into premises and get trading. On display they have a range of bikes from kids to 27.5″wheels full bouncers. Bike brands range includes Saracen, GT, Scott, Genesis, and Raleigh so there’s something for all types. Their plan for the future is to bring in more accessories and broaden the range of bikes in store. The Woods are keen to expand the range of road cycling and adventure bikes as these types of bike are synonymous with cycling the New Forest.

Slightly longer ride than last weekend but just as successful for PRs! my fitness levels must be returning despite only having covered 660 miles this year (this is depressing as at this rate i’m on for my worst year yet!). A few lumpy bits in there including Bolderwood Ornamental drive climb, nice longish climb with a ramp at the end, then a few little ups and downs on the way back. Picked up a fair old speed in the run down to Lyndhurst with my confidence returning after my crash in 2014 (hit a car at 30mph, pulled out of a side road).
Again another nod to the Specialized Turbo Cotton tyres, phenomenal pieces of kit. I’ve never ridden such a smooth tyre. This weekend i dropped my tyre pressures to 85psi front and 90psi rear. This resulted in no loss of speed and reduced even more road hum through the bike. In fact I would probably go as far as saying it might have added to my speed with making less of the road surface.

Was a nice little route out with a bike shop half way through! what more could you want….
If you are out and about in the New Forest pop in to see the staff at The Woods Cyclery and watch it grow!
