Popped out on the charge again today to test myself on a local Strava favourite, Braggers lane, near Bransgore in the New Forest.
I’m quite enjoying the ‘no option but to push harder’ ride style of a single speed so thought this segment would really try me and the bikes 42×16 gearing.
It’s about 10 miles from Boscombe pier to Braggers lane so I’m nicely warmed up by the time I get there. It’s a grind, about a mile long and 150ft, and a test of leg strength but the charge climbs it well. Happy to get up it without having to stop! But I was really working for it with my quads burning at the top. A nice little test and a confidence booster as well.
With a few more miles under my belt, and with plenty of winter left, I think I’m going to give a sportive a go single speed next year……
