With a week until the New Forest 100 sportive (weekend of the 19th and 20th of September) it seems the route has changed, and now only the medium and long routes actually enter the forest….. the short route disappearing off to Cranbourne along part of the Bournemouth sportive route. So for anyone registered to ride that distance hoping to see the New Forest may be disappointed. Having looked into the reasons it seems this may be due to an event clash and the close of two lanes on the A338 driving more vehicles into the forest. The other event taking place is the Macmillan Cycletta on Sunday the 20th, a women only ride running out of Beaulieu in aid of Macmillan cancer support. I have provided technical support for this ride a few years back whilst working at Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley, it was well organised, and from the routes on the Macmillan website its going to be a great ride.
I am looking forward to riding next Sunday despite the route change as I’m getting my old man out on his new bike for his first sportive. Being a rider on a budget we shopped around the best bikes for under £400 and eventually chose the Mekk Pinerolo AL-ZR from Rutland Cycles for £275! it has had great reviews for the money and, being a bit of a short bugger at 5’4″, it came in the right size.
Lets see how the new route pans out and how my old man rates his new bike! Maybe see you there!
